Aviation & Marine Artist
Quality, Affordable Aviation & Marine Art in Watercolours or Pastels

Jonathan Margetts - Flying!I am a semi- professional aviation & Marine artist living and working in Bath & North East Somerset. My initial interest in aviation and ships was inspired by my late father who served in the Fleet Air Arm between 1937 and 1945 and was a keen amateur artist himself. It is through his encouragement that I began my aviation art work. My interest in aviation and marine subjects was seeded and I have never looked back. I am a completely self taught artist and strongly believe that creativity and art comes from within oneself. I believe if I had received comprehensive art training then my ability and individual style would have been influenced and the result would inevitably been completely different.

I have very fond memories of the excitement of flying for the first time as a young boy passenger in several 1930's built Auster Autocrats and a Auster 5 together with a beautiful de Havilland Hornet Moth biplane based at Ipswich Airport in the 1970's, all in my early teens. I have in my youth spent many hours watching shipping at the busy International Port of Felixstowe.

During my mid twenties in the early 1980’s I discovered my love and talent for painting aircraft & ships and exhibited some watercolours at an Aero-Jumble stand at RNAS Yeovilton where I sold my first artworks and also received commissions. In 1984 I awarded my first commercial commission to paint six paintings on the subject of aircraft and ships for a major well known greeting card manufacturer.

Over the last 30 years as an aviation & marine artist, my commissioned artwork has grown with a customer base covering private and commercial outlets from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, & Japan.

I have previously exhibited and sold artwork at the annual Guild of Aviation Artists annual London exhibition in addition to exhibitions in the West Country.

Jonathan sailing an historic bargeAmongst general aviation and military subjects from biplanes to modern jets, I have specialised in offering commissioned artwork of General Light Aviation and several of my original watercolour and pastel paintings now hang in Flying Clubs in the UK.

I also paint pet portraits in pastels.

.I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
